Queen of Babble

queen.jpgI always try to grab Meg Cabots books, the latest to that list is Queen of babble.Queen of babble is the story of Lizzie Nichols, a supposed to be college graduate for her family and friends but she didn’t quite graduate college. Actually, she has to write a fifty page senior thesis on the history of fashion in order to graduate. Unfortunately, not knowing about this she had made a line of plans. The plans were going to England to be with her cute Brit boyfriend Andrew. But Lizzie figures, she’ll combine the trip, use her time in England wisely and while cozying up to Andrew, she’ll start work on her thesis. When she reaches England she realizes that her all so cute Brit Boyfriend isn’t that cute at all. Things take a wild turn and her real adventure begins. She meets this total stranger and blabber everything to the stranger expecting not to meet him again. Oh laaa, as destiny has something else in store she is actually visiting her friend at the strangers place- Chateau Mirac.

Lizzie develops a crush on Luke, the son of Chateau Mirac’s owner. She learns the hard way that sometimes you just have to keep your mouth shut. Fortunately for readers, Lizzie’s genuine niceness, caring personality, and fashion advice save her from creating havoc of this plot. Lizzie is definitely the heart of this story. The plot is interesting when seen through Lizzie’s eyes, and heard through Lizzie’s lips, life at Chateau Mirac comes alive.

Though Lizzie may be a bit pushy, a bit of a gossip, she’s still someone the reader can relate to, and someone the reader can like as a character. Her interactions with the secondary characters, and her blooming romance with Luke prove to be interesting details that enable Lizzie to come alive. But then the main concept of Lizzie being blabbermouth was already portrayed in Can you keep a Secret? By Sophie Kinsella.

Though the plot is a bit of a let down, valiant Lizzie saves the day with her witticisms, her fashion advice, and her appealing nature. This is another fun and inventive read from Meg Cabot.

Synopsis

From New York Times bestselling author Meg Cabot comes the hilarious story of a lovable blabbermouth who can’t seem to stay out of trouble. . . .

What’s an American girl with a big mouth but an equally big heart to do?

Lizzie Nichols has a problem, and it isn’t that she doesn’t have the slightest idea what she’s going to do with her life or that she’s blowing what should be her down payment on a cute little Manhattan apartment on a trip to London to visit her long-distance boyfriend, Andrew. But what’s the point of planning for the future when she’s done it again? See, Lizzie can’t keep her mouth shut. And it’s not just that she can’t keep her own secrets, she can’t keep anything to herself.

This time when she opens her big mouth, her good intentions get Andrew in major hot water. So now Lizzie’s stuck in London with no boyfriend and no place to stay until the departure date on her nonrefundable airline ticket.

Fortunately, there’s Shari, Lizzie’s best friend and college roommate, who’s spending her summer in southern France, catering weddings with her boyfriend, Chaz, in a sixteenth-century château. One call and Lizzie’s on a train to Souillae. Who cares if she’s never traveled alone in her life and only speaks rudimentary French? One glimpse of gorgeous Château Mirac — not to mention the gorgeous Luke, the son of Château Mirac’s owner — and she’s smitten.

But while most caterers can be trusted to keep a secret, Lizzie’s the exception. And no sooner has the first cork been popped than Luke hates her, the bride is in tears, and it looks like Château Mirac is in danger of becoming a lipo-recovery spa. As if things aren’t bad enough, her ex-boyfriend Andrew shows up looking for “closure” (or at least a loan), threatening to ruin everything, including Lizzie’s chance at finding real love. . . .

Unless she can figure out a way to use that big mouth of hers to save the day.
