Carl Sagan has such overwhelming passion for his subject, and coherence in his thoughts that no reader will be able to finish one of his writings without being forever touched. Billions & Billions is another installment in the established continuum of Carl’s scientific and philosophical works. Unfortunately, it also has the morose distinction of being his last. For those readers who are fans of Carl Sagan’s writings (most of you), you must read this book. For those readers uninterested in science or philosophy; purchase and read Billions & Billions for the last chapter. Anyone not deeply touched by Carl’s honest description of his passion for life and love in this chapter may want to be checked for a pulse.

Where the Heart Is

by Bookworm

where.jpg# Paperback: 384 pages

# Publisher: Grand Central Publishing; Oprah’s Book Club edition (June 1, 1998)
# Language: English

# ISBN-13: 978-0446672214

The opportunity to read a truly touching book. When I saw Where the Heart Is, I decided it sounded at least somewhat happy- it was better than one about a woman being falsely accused of murder. I read it, and I found a treasure of a novel. The story jumps around a bit, skipping over many details. Often times, Letts leaves a scene hanging, only to let the reader know what happened six weeks ago in the next chapter. The style is little difficult to follow at first, but I grew to like it. It really resembles Novalee’s (our heroine) lifestyle. [click to continue...]

This was not one of my favorite books but still well worth the time it took to read it. ..It is always good to see how an author deals with her characters, and try to learn something from the reading ..

If you read this book, or want to read one that goes straight to your heart, read Stolen Moments by Barbara Jeanne Fisher. . .It is a beautiful story of unrequited love. . .for certain the love story of the nineties. I intended to give the book a quick read, but I got so caught up in the story that I couldn’t put the book down. From the very beginning, I was fully caught up in the heart-wrenching account of Julie Hunter’s battle with lupus and her growing love for Don Lipton. This love, in the face of Julie’s impending death, makes for a story that covers the range of human emotions. [click to continue...]

I Love You. Now What?: Falling in Love is a Mystery, Keeping It Isn’t

I have read many relationship books, but this is the first one that has really helped me. I had a difficult home life growing up, and the wounds followed me into my adult life. When I got into relationships I was placing high demands on my partners to fulfill all my emotional needs and make me happy. Consequently, I still was not happy and my partners suffered too. I was relieved to find out that ‘I’ was the one that could make me happy, and in order to achieve that happiness ‘I’ needed to grow both spiritually and emotionally. It’s a great book and I think everyone would benefit from reading it, whether they are currently in a relationship or not. [click to continue...]
