Healing with Whole Foods: Asian Traditions and Modern Nutrution

I have found similar books to be disappointing. This is a very large book with a lot of information that allows you to tailor treatments for you and your family. I have owned the book for about a year and have yet to find an ailment that wasn’t covered.

Synopsis
Used as a reference by students of acupuncture, this is a hefty, truly comprehensive guide to the theory and healing power of Chinese medicine. It’s also a primer on nutrition—including facts about green foods, such as spirulina and blue-green algae, and the “regeneration diets” used by cancer patients and arthritics—along with an inspiring cookbook with more than 300 mostly vegetarian, nutrient-packed recipes. I love to cook and usually take recipes and doctor them to my family’s liking. I don’t think it’s a big deal to toss in some ’special’ ingredients into foods. The concept behind this book makes sense but it’s certainly not new. My problem with it however, is that the recipes are terrible. Nothing about tossing in a few healthy ingredients says that it also has to taste bad. I’ve returned the book but have done some research and found that the ’sneaky chef’ is a much better book with better and more flavorful recipes. I have to admit the only reason i bought deceptively delicious was because so many people were talking about it. the ideas and concepts are good tips to have, the recipes are not. Read More »

A lot of cookbooks falsely advertise that they contain 15 or 30 minute recipes, but the two recipes I have tried so far from this book (I just got it last week) both took 30 minutes as claimed. Both recipes were surprisingly good and flavorful– often vegetarian recipes have less flavor and take more time than I would like. I have a lot of vegetarian cookbooks and so far this one seems a lot more appealing to non-vegetarians than the others– the meals don’t taste or look like “hippie food” . The only disappointing thing is there was no photos in this book. Read More »
