I was pleasantly surprised with this one. It was one of the few Discworld books that I had not yet read.My sister in law had got a copy of this from Ireland. I am glad that she got me a copy. Being a fan of the Discworld I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

Breaking with the more or less historical setting in previous albums, two rival outer space alien ships appear above the Gaulish village.
The evil aliens Nagma want to know the secret of the great weapon the Gauls have (Getafix’s potion), that is “known throughout the universe”, in order to conquer more planets. However a Tadsilweny called Toon comes to the village with the mission to destroy the weapon.
The aliens are styled on the happy-faced Walt Disney and DC Comics superheroes of the American comic book style on one side, and futuristic robot and insect-like Japanese manga style on the other.

As an avid Asterix fan since childhood, I am always excited when a new Asterix adventure comes out, although I have to admit since the last one (Asterix and the Actress) this time around I was very apprehensive. I must say, however, I was quite pleasantly surprised. This is a collection of short stories of previously published (and unpublished) ideas. All very entertaining and humorous with the usual signature sharp wit. If you are an Asterix fan and collector of his adventures, you will definitely want this book, it’s worth it! if you are unfamiliar with Asterix, this is probably not the best place to start, you are better off getting one of the classic adventures that are being reprinted now.

I have been an avid Asterix fan almost ALL my life, I have collected pretty much all the Asterix adventures and still love and read them ALL. I think they are ALL brilliant, this is simply NOT Asterix. When I found out there was a new Asterix out there I was very excited, I was reading the other reviews and thought well just how bad can it be, this is Asterix after all… let me tell you, if you are a big fan and familiar with earlier Asterix books, do NOT buy this! It IS THAT bad! I do NOT know what these people who gave it good reviews are on about, Uderzo died a while back and Goscinny has produced some excellent Asterix since, it is not a sudden transition! Call a spade a spade, if you are over ten years old, this is just not worth it, TRUST ME!
