Although the book is very insightful, I walked away feeling that if you were not spiritually evolved enough to understand what the author was trying to convey, you could absolve yourself from any past wrong doing, and not be held accountable or responsible for your actions, because after-all being in the presence of now is all that really exists anyway. There were many things I found myself nodding ‘yes’ to and other viewpoints I found myself saying out loud ‘no that doesn’t seem right’. Will have to read the book again in a year or two. Living History

It’s not an easy task for someone pushing broom behind her husband to be elected to the Senate to represent people from New York – it’s a lot of guts, or a lot of stupidity. So don’t get me wrong – I like Hillary . Hillary Rodham Clinton is known to hundreds of millions of people around the world. Yet few beyond her close friends and family have ever heard her account of her extraordinary journey. She writes with candor, humor and passion about her upbringing in suburban, middle-class America in the 1950s and her transformation from Goldwater Girl to student activist to controversial First Lady. Say what you want about Tolle’s theology ‘or lack thereof’, about his writing style, about whatever you want. The fact remains that since I read this book I’ve led a more peaceful, joyful, happy life, no matter what circumstances have come my way. I’m happy. Tolle helped show me the way. Read More »

A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier

a long way gone.jpg“A Long Way Gone hits you hard in the gut with Sierra Leone’s unimaginable brutality and then it touches your soul with unexpected acts of kindness. Ishmael Beah’s story tears your heart to pieces and then forces you to put it back together again, because if Beah can emerge from such horror with his humanity in tact, it’s the least you can do.”
—Jeannette Walls, author of The Glass Castle: A Memoir

After a long gap, I read such a remarkable memoir. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to read this book, but the title kept haunting me and I finally decided to give it a go, and I am very happy I did.

This is a story of a young man who has suffered and seen the worst of humanity and yet surprising he managed to survive and become a better man for all the tragedy, violence and horror he was forced to witness as a young 12-year-old boy. Read More »
