Although the book is very insightful, I walked away feeling that if you were not spiritually evolved enough to understand what the author was trying to convey, you could absolve yourself from any past wrong doing, and not be held accountable or responsible for your actions, because after-all being in the presence of now is all that really exists anyway. There were many things I found myself nodding ‘yes’ to and other viewpoints I found myself saying out loud ‘no that doesn’t seem right’. Will have to read the book again in a year or two. Read More »

Easwaran presents the Gita with some of the Sanskrit words intact in the text. He gives the multiple meanings of the words in the intro to each chapter. This metaphorical book is a wonderful meditation on the battles we face within, as well as a thought-provoking description of our relationship to God as we define the Creator. Read More »

Say what you want about Tolle’s theology ‘or lack thereof’, about his writing style, about whatever you want. The fact remains that since I read this book I’ve led a more peaceful, joyful, happy life, no matter what circumstances have come my way. I recognize my mind, my ego, my thoughts flaring up, trying to complain, trying to draw lines in the sand about what ought to be happening, what life supposedly owes me, and I simply step back and find my deeper self, the self that’s outside of all my petty expectations and judgments. I’m happy. Tolle helped show me the way. Read More »

I have really enjoyed Ashok Banker’s Ramayana series. In King of Ayodhya, Ravana commands Varuna to destroy Rama’s armies as a response to Hanuman’s devastation of Lanka. Varuna’s tsunami and the consequential death toll enrages Rama and he uses his brahman shakti against the god. Varuna placates Rama by offering his services to create a natural bridge of greybacks for the armies of vanars and bears to cross the ocean and reach Lanka. But Ravana’s awe-inspiring feats of sorcery- changing the very topography of Lanka as well as creating an entire race of rakshasas- exterminates vanars and bears by the thousands. Vibhisena is banished from Lanka, and joins Rama in the struggle against Ravana’s adharma. Read More »
